Negotiating Religiosities among Indonesian Muslims amid the Covid-19 Pandemic: Acceptance, Resistance, and Transformation

The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted religion. Provisions issued by religious authorities were imposed upon Indonesian Muslims to cope with. Various responses identified representing how their religiosities negotiated. Here, direct participation in the implementation of Tarawih prayers Surabaya was taken as a research unit. This study focused on (1) diversity negotiating amid pandemic; (2) its underlying reasons; and (3) potential implications. qualitative methodologically took constructivist approach phenomenological design combining open-ended interviews, behavioral observations, questionnaires collecting data. results demonstrated many factors playing role shaping diversity. They could include social, political, economic, cultural considerations. negotiation occurred through acceptance, resistance, transformation embodying tensions between logics religion addressing scientific contributions. outbreak subsequently confirmed flexibility adaptability Islam historical dynamics.
